Lori E. Seid… And How Was Your Day?

Pearl Harbor 70 Years of A Date That Will Live In Infamy

Posted in Criminal, family, freedom, friends, human rights, Life, outlaws, Outrageous, Politics, queer, Sad Reality, Truth, World by Lori E. Seid on 7 December 2011

Anyone who knows this blog might find this entry odd- but – if you know me, and my take on  history, you’ll understand.

Boats & Boats filled with Jews fleeing Germany, Poland, Austria – Europe in general, were turned back by FDR time & time again because what was happening in Europe was ‘not our problem & none of our business’.

These boatloads of humans were sent back to sure gruesome deaths- FDR was fully aware of their destiny but hmmmm- risk involvement over Jews? Queers? Gypsy’s….

Until Pearl Harbor.

And even then it was because of Japan, who formed an alliance with Germany and Italy.

So in my weird way I look at this action of violence as the moment that enabled my relatives to survive. The very few that were left by 1941.

They say history repeats itself.

During the 80’s & early 90’s I honestly prayed for a Pearl Harbor of The AIDS War to Drop it’s Bomb.

World AIDS Day

Yesterday was World AIDS day. So busy, I forgot the date & posted the clown getting a ticket. I deal with AIDS everyday, i thought whilst walking my dog, if we still did The Day Without Art action on the 1st i would post a blank blog entry but we don’t….

Later in the day I rushed to The Center to watch a rehearsal with Lauper and the Youth Pride Choir. Cyndi is the most genuine human you will ever meet, famous or not & everyone in her world is an equal. A peer. A human being. In the middle of their rehearsal she looked back at a young girl she told to breath & said;

You’re shy right? I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you nervous. I just want you to breath. I got the same problem. YOUS ALL NEED TO BREATH. Yous all belong here on the stage, in this country, in this world. YOUS ARE OUR FUTURE. Don’t EVA let anyone tell you different. YOUS ARE THE FUTURE OF THIS WORLD & YOUS ARE LOVED. I don’t care who or what comes at yous to tell you different, you breath & look them in the eye & say I BELONG HERE….

From her heart, from her truth, from her world.

Cyndi Lauper changed the life of every person, young or old, singing or standing, in that room, and I personally am still not over her words. On the surreal subway ride home I wondered what my life would have been like if while in high school or junior high school, at any point in my life, someone, like Cyndi Lauper, or a teacher, an adult, said what she said, to me. I wondered what support for being different, to recognizing who you really were at an early age would mean.

Let’s find out; support our future, our youth. Make sure they know they are wanted & loved every second of every day & not just on a day called World AIDS Day.

Laura Kennedy-RIP

From the very moment I heard that bass twang, TWO MANY CREEPS, became the soundtrack to my life. Even now, cutting thru the cops at #OWS I hear it in my head & mouth the lyrics….

I don’t wanna go Out on the Streets Anymore…Cause These People Give Me, Give Me The Creeps, Anymore, I don’t wanna, TOO MANY CREEPS TOO MANY CREEPS TOO MANY CREEPS

The Bush Tetras:

Everyone knew Laura had been sick a very long time but still it was a fuckin kick to the gut to see that RIP next to her name. Rather than wax poetic, here are her words, which can be found on her blog;

“Us New York City kids from the ’80s, often transplanted from other cities, other countries, occasionally other planets (take a wild guess who I’m talking about) – we’ve kicked ass. We’ve taken names, too – and a good many of us have not only lived to tell, but are rockin’ the telling and rollin’ the living in a way that’s inspirational… We keep going, and going and going. I defy you to tell me that all of us weren’t defined by that moment in time that we shared. This has been apparent to me for a while, but more so now that we’re a decade into the oughts. We were blessed to come together in this life at a time that defined the End of a Century.”

“While it totally sucks that this illness has defined me, sometimes for years at a time, I’ve somehow managed to grow through it. I’m not going to call it a spiritual awakening, because there’s always been a relationship with a higher power in my life. But there’s a strong sense that the universe will provide. That what is meant to happen will happen. And that regardless of what happens, it’s going to be just fine. In fact, to paraphrase a lyric, better than fine.”

Spending Time in Zuccotti Park – OWS#

My ankle 100% healed, I asked Joe to go with me to Zuccotti Park.  Joe, like several of my friends, make almost daily trips of support to the park. Cleaning supplies, food for humans & pets, clothes, positive conversation, MIC CHECK, forums,  just sitting…it’s about doing whatever you can. And finally feeling that hope, promised by others who had power to gain, but a hope for change just the same. Like maybe we can make change like those believers that came before us.

Joe shows me the ropes, though it is so well planned and laid out the parks feels very safe and welcoming to join

Do go to Zuccotti Park. Do not just believe what you read. You have to feel the vibe. See the conversations happening. Be part of it. Democracy Is Not a Spectator Sport. Our Future is Now.

Commit An Act of Domestic Terrorism

Hanging laundry in unusual and inappropriate places is a ritual gesture shared by people around the world – particularly women – and has become a way to generate conversation on the nature of what is private and what is public. Monday through Friday mornings, a lady in red carrying a basket full of white laundry will walk down 14th Street looking for places to hang her laundry while talking to people about their lives, their laundry, their everyday. On the weekend, she will revisit the laundry and re-tell the stories she has heard.
